Volkswagen’s reborn zero-emission Kombi has been snapped with its production body – though clever camouflage means some design details remain under wraps ahead of 2022 launch.
The upcoming 2022 Volkswagen ID. Buzz electric people mover has been spied once again, this time with its production body – albeit disguised in a clever vinyl wrap.
Whereas past prototypes caught in the wild have been test mules under the body of a combustion-engined Transporter, the latest example photographed by Instagram’s @red.david wears the sheetmetal that’s expected to clothe the production version of the reborn, zero-emissions Volkswagen Kombi people mover – which used the ‘ID. Buzz‘ nameplate in concept guise.
While clever vinyl wrap attempts to disguise the vehicle with a mix of Renault and Opel design cues, clear links can be seen to the retro-inspired I.D. Buzz concept of 2017, including its U-shaped design element below the front Volkswagen badge that references the two-tone, split-window Kombi ‘vans’ of the 1950s and 1960s.
